WingtraPilot and WingtraOne releases

How to update?

Please see instructions on how to update your WingtraPilot and WingtraOne software here.

Update notes beyond 1.10 are available in the Wingtra Changelog as individual features.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 2.3 - October 2021

  • WingtraOne now saves flight records to ease tracking of flight operations, as well as compliance reporting
  • These saved flight records are optimized for upload to third-party fleet management tools like Airdata and Dronelogbook
  • They are automatically stored next to the WingraPilotProjects folder for all the supported payloads
  • Note: foy payloads that do not generate a WingtraPilotProjects folder (e.g. Altum GEN I and RedEdge GEN I) the flight records can be manually retrieved through log transfer, if needed
  • Various reliability improvement and bug fixes

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 2.2 - August 2021

  • Support for the WingtraOne GEN II and all new payloads (Sony a6100, Oblique Sony a6100, MicaSense Altum, MicaSense RedEdge-MX)
  • In-app telemetry communication now features reception strength and distance to home indications
  • Lock flight plan feature
  • One-click import flight plans from Gmail, Gdrive, Dropbox and more
  • Chromatic aberration correction for the oblique payload
  • Improved map handling: zoom by double-tap or center easily on the complete flight plan
  • Support for the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3 tablet
  • Several bug fixes and layout improvements

This is also the last software update that supports the Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet (SM-T350). We recommend customers operating their WingtraOne still with the TAB A to reach out to us and upgrade to the newest tablet version.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 2.0.0 - April 2021

A game changing release for easier user workflows and less time spent on the field. It features the following improvements:

  • Flight planning is now offered in WingtraPilot and WingtraHub (desktop)
  • Export and import flight plans in WingtraPilot and WingtraHub (desktop)
  • A new flight plan overview page allows you to browse, search and filter
  • Better guidance when creating new or copying flight plans
  • Phasing out the use of pitot tube and removing pre-flight airspeed calibration check
  • Sunsetting of geotagging in WingtraPilot
  • Several bug fixes and reliability improvements

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.15.3

  • Safety critical bugfix for survey flight behaviour and battery estimation.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.15.2—March 2021

  • High-altitude propellers (HAP) support take-off above 1500 m above mean sea level (AMSL) and increased safety compared to normal propellers from the same altitude.
  • Flight time increases by up to 30% when using HAP between 1500 m and 4500 m AMSL.
  • Several critical improvements to flight control failsafes.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.15.1—December 2020

  • Failsafe recovery, in case the middle stand falls out in-air. This can occur if the middle stand is not inserted correctly before the flight.
  • Slightly increased safety margin for low-battery RTH in altitudes > 1500m AMSL with standard propellers.
  • Bugfix to PPK logging, enabling geotagging with third-party tools.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.15—November 2020

  • Re-designed camera and PPK preflight checks ensure worry-free operation plus clear and targetted troubleshooting guidance in case any issues come up.
  • In-air detection and recovery from flap or servo damage, as well as refined detection in the flap pre-flight check.
  • It is now much easier to access your log files. Smaller file sizes, better documentation, and meaningful file names make your life easier when sharing them with Wingtra Support.
  • A new system overview tab in WingtraPilot displays the serial numbers of the drone, the PPK module, and the camera, including the time when they were last connected.
  • Various additional system reliability improvements to payload control and flight controllers.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.14—August 2020

  • Forward-flight improvements in high-wind conditions, resulting in increased safety, data quality, and overall productivity to the highest range of the published wind tolerance.
  • Minor improvements to the low battery RTH behavior, optimizing for both safety and flight time depending on the flight conditions.
  • Visually redesigned app pop-ups, user prompts and error messages in WingtraPilot for improved UX consistency.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.13—June 2020

  • New payload support for Micasense Altum. Capture multispectral and thermal imagery for agricultural applications at high resolution and large coverage.
  • Import your custom elevation data as GeoTiff files, and fly at a constant height above terrain to both increase safety and achieve a uniform GSD. This is especially useful in areas where the default elevation data (SRTM) is not available (more than 60 degrees north or 55 degrees south) or is outdated (mines, glaciers, etc.).
  • A more robust and automated pre-flight flap check now happens at the end of the preflight checklist.
  • In case WingtraOne is still powered after a flight for an excessive amount of time, a buzzer will remind you to shut down the system. It will also buzz if a blocked flap is detected.
  • Drivetrain performance (motors, speed controllers, and propellers) is now monitored during flight and you will be notified with timely instructions to examine the hardware at an early stage.
  • Battery health is now displayed in WingtraPilot and you will receive a pop-up reminder to arrange new replacements when the batteries have reached a critical age.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.12—April 2020

WingtraPilot v1.12 brings major improvements to your in-flight interactions with WingtraOne:

  • Pause WingtraOne before landing and move it to land on a desired spot with new in-app controls. Full operation is possible without the remote control (RC).
  • Without using the RC, you can pause the mission in cruise, sending it into loiter. In this loiter mode, you can command WingtraOne to rise and sink.
  • Resume your data collection from pause or RTH.
  • Improved in-flight feedback (flight mode, RTH reason, wind speed)
  • Sunsetting the emergency shut-off on the RC. Triggering emergency shut-off will be deactivated on the RC with this update. You can still shut-off the system in an emergency through WingtraPilot by going through a two-staged shutt-off procedure.

As of this release, we recommend flying the WingtraOne without using the RC.

Further changes:

  • The idle flap position after performing the flap pre-flight check and after landing has changed, such that both flaps return to their zero position. This is done to protect the flaps from getting entangled with obstacles or rough terrain.
  • In case of magnetic interference, the safety landing mode had been removed and replaced by a seamless recovery mechanism. This allows you to proceed with the flight even if compass measurement errors occur after take-off.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.11—February 2020

  • Increased flight time. Thanks to the updated battery estimation logic, the WingtraOne can fly up to 25% longer and automatically trigger RTH for a safe landing in all conditions.
NOTE: the battery level can go down to 15% during the survey because it will not drain as fast during landing as it did previously
  • Support for high-altitude propellers, enabling flights up to 5000 m above mean sea level (AMSL). From now on, high altitude propellers can be used to take-off above 2000 m AMSL and are mandatory for take-off between 2500 m and 4800 m AMSL.
  • Images (non-PPK only) can now be imported into Trimble Business Center (TBC) in the Trimble JXL file format. This is now an option in WingtraPilot and WingtraHub. Enable the option from WingtraPilot settings.

WingtraPilot and WingtraOne 1.10.1—Dec 2019

  • A new take/off and landing controller achieves higher stability in gusty and challenging wind conditions up to 12 m/s, as well as faster landings and improved touchdowns
  • A new Help menu in WingtraPilot features an interactive user guide and links to get help or give feedback
  • Immediate post-flight used feedback for failed data capture due to the following: bad PPK signal quality, misdetection of image triggers by the PPK module or camera trigger failure
  • Slightly faster QX1 image triggering allows lower GSDs at a given frontal overlap and in specific wind conditions
