FAQ
WingtraOne GEN II Drone
What is WingtraOne GEN II?
- WingtraOne GEN II is the next generation WingtraOne with completely redesigned electronics and a new oblique payload. Over the past 4 years literally every part of the WingtraOne has been redesigned multiple times. All of these advancements mean that WingtraOne has become the most reliable drone with leading-edge fail-safe and self-diagnosis algorithms. So it’s time to market this with GEN II.
- You can keep on selling first-generation drones—they will still be supported
- The first-generation WingtraOne continues to be a high-quality product and is in no way inferior regarding safety and data quality
- The first-generation WingtraOne will be gradually phased out and can be ordered until the end of 2021
Does our base model cost rise if every plane is equipped with PPK?
- No
- WOP is still at USD 18’900
What will the price difference be between the GEN I and GEN II?
- Find complete pricing in the Wingtra Distributor Dashboard: distributor.wingtra.com
- In short, there are no price changes for comparable solutions
Features and payloads
Can I share the Zurich city digital twin already with customers?
- No, you should not talk about GEN II or related products with customers. If you fear to lose a deal to competition due to a missing 3D payload or have other reasons, please get in touch with your local sales manager.
How long did it take to collect the data for the Zurich city digital twin?
- Link to Zurich city digital twin
- Total area: 800 ha (2000 ac)
- GSD: 3 cm/px (1 in/px)
- Overlap (side / front): 80% / 85% --> single grid, i.e. no cross-grid is needed
- In-field time: 12 hours (6 flight hours)
- Processing time: 7 days
I have the Sony a6100 add-on kit and want to buy a lens to take oblique images, is that possible?
- No, the Oblique Sony a6100 has its own lens and mount and planning software. In order to benefit from the oblique solution, you need to buy the complete add-on kit
- We do not anticipate that many customers will invest in both the Sony a6100 and the Oblique Sony a6100 payloads. We will mostly see:
- Price-sensitive customers that have only the Sony a6100 and
- High-value customers that have the Sony RX1 and the Oblique Sony a6100
- We explicitly did not design for swapping lenses as we saw this lead to error-prone usability, which resulted in bad data outputs in the past (QX1 with 20mm and 15mm lens)
The a6100 triggers faster, what's the lowest altitude we can fly? What is the lens and coverage capability of the a6100 camera? Is the lens removable?
- See tech specs
- The lowest altitude is 61 m (200 ft) with a 1.2 cm/px (0.47 in/px) GSD
- At 120 m (400 ft) with a 60% side overlap, the coverage is 240 ha (600 ac) with a 2.4 cm/px (0.93 in/px) GSD
- The lens is generally removable. But there should not be any reason for the customer to swap lenses
How does in-flight thermal calibration of the Altum payload work? Is it a step that is currently done in the post-process software or is it now done on the drone after the flight?
- On GEN I, the thermal band is recalibrated in fixed intervals (every five minutes, or faster if the temperature changes by more than 2° Kelvin), which can lead to single missed images. The new GEN II in-air calibration will happen in turns between flight lines when no images are being captured, which leads to more consistent data. On GEN II, the system ensures that you get complete, well-calibrated data over all bands
Where are the collected RGB images stored during the flight? Where are the multispectral images stored?
- RGB: single SD card with data organized in the WingtraPilotProjects folder
- MicaSense: 2 SD card workflow. The images are saved on the MicaSense SD card, the WingtraPilotProjects folder is saved to the WingtraOne SD card. In WingtraHub, you select the WingtraPilotProjects folder and are guided in adding the images. Batch processing works flawlessly, i.e., you simply select the folder with all images one time, and WingtraHub matches everything automatically into the right flights
About (broadcast) remote ID—what will be the workflow to get that offering activated? Just a software update? Is there any more hardware needed?
- “Remote ID” means that the drone communicates basic information (identification, drone location, take-off location) through the air
- Exact standards are in the making, and Wingtra will provide the respective software update at the latest by September 2022 in order to comply with regulations.
The RC has been removed from the base bundle. Can it be purchased as an add-on?
- Yes, it can be ordered as an add-on
- FYI, today, 90 percent of all customers fly without the RC
PPK
-png.png)
How is PPK enabled? How does the licensing work?
- Coming soon: knowledge base article that explains PPK licensing
Is the PPK system the same Septentrio we currently have?
- Yes
- With GEN II we achieve standard Wingtra high accuracy outputs
Will there still be a USB dongle for PPK processing?
- Yes, it is delivered in every base bundle (WOP-EMP-GEN2)
Can our software recognize and prevent customers from using a cheaper PPK license (e.g., for the RedEdge-MX) with a more expensive payload, e.g., Altum?
- Our software prevents misuse of PPK licenses. WingtraPilot recognizes the camera in use.
Bentley
What are the limits of Bentley’s trial license?
- TBD
Zurich map: Is there also a cloud version of the dataset available?
- Yes, see wingtra.com/zurich
Can Bentley be sold by Pix4D resellers?
- Yes
What is the processing speed of Bentley for large data sets? Any hardware requirements that should be considered?
- System requirements—recommended to have 64bit, 16 GB RAM, 8-core CPU, NVIDIA, running Microsoft 7, 8 or 10
- Performance—without parallelization, you can expect 10 to 20 gigapixels per day (Zurich city map was 300 gigapixels). Furthermore, Bentley CC is really strong in parallelization (distributing the job on multiple cores, on multiple computers or on the cloud), and you can process a lot in a very short time if you like
Can we use other software such as Metashape, Agisoft, etc. for oblique image processing?
- Wingtra’s data is software agnostic and can be used with different software solutions
- We recommend the following softwares for oblique image processing:
- Bentley Context Capture (part of Reality Modeling WorkSuite)
- ESRI Sitescan
- Skylinesoft
- Other software can be used too but results may vary
Commercial terms
Where can I find the price list?
- All products are visible in the price list on distributor.wingtra.com
Can I get a discount on my first GEN II order?
- Our new oblique payload opens up a whole variety of new applications. Wingtra is happy to support you in getting to know the value oblique images add.
- Oblique trial offer: 100 days cash-back plus a free Bentley trial license for customers who order the oblique payload

- Standard policies apply:

Compatibility
Over the past three years, Wingtra has ensured that all new features were compatible with all current products. This limited Wingtra’s R&D to given technical constraints, and certain new features could not be realized, i.e., larger or more powerful payloads that require more than 15W, like oblique payload with PPK.
Innovation is our DNA: In order to offer new solutions and business opportunities to our customers, Wingtra decided to open up those constraints by developing a new-generation drone.
Why can’t I use the oblique/a6100 payload on my old drone?
- Oblique requires a new power / USB-C interface and more space than what we can offer on first generation WingtraOne (due to the PPK module on top of the camera). The camera and mount have a different power supply and form factor, which do not comply with first-generation WingtraOnes.
Why can’t I use PPK with my MicaSense cameras on my old drone?
- The first generation design does not allow for MicaSense PPK; there is not enough space and the USB-C interface does not allow for it.
When will the first-generation WingtraOne reach the end of life? How long will Wingtra support the first-generation WingtraOne?
- You can keep on selling first generation drones—they are still supported
- First-generation WingtraOne continues to be a high-quality product and is in no way inferior regarding safety and data quality. First-generation WingtraOnes can be ordered until the end of 2021.
- Think of it like a new iPhone version and how its predecessor gradually fades out
- End of support is not scheduled and Wingtra will announce so at least 12 months in advance.
- This means we will support all GEN I drones with replacement parts, full customer support and safety critical updates until such announcement and for the following 12 months. There might be specific software updates or new features that are only released for GEN II drones already before such date.
