This article explains the standard upgrade path of a first generation wing to a GEN II.
There is generally no need to upgrade to GEN II unless the customer needs the oblique payload or PPK with a multispectral camera.
Getting an upgrade means that the wing (WIN-WMP) is replaced instead of the whole bundle (WOP-EMP).
Instead of an “upgrade”, consider buying a full GEN II drone bundle in addition (WOP-EMP). This gives added value from an operations perspective (2x drones) and ensures redundancy.
An upgrade is a replacement of a wing whereas the replaced wing is disabled. It cannot be used as a second wing.
- The old wing can not be used as a backup – this is a replacement offer
- The new wing has to be registered at wingtra.com/register as a replacement
- Wing is disabled, they can hang it in their office
Upgrade path
If the customer wants to upgrade their drone they need to purchase:
- A GEN II spare drone (WIN-EMP)
- The new wing has to be registered at wingtra.com/register as a replacement
- Old drone is deactivated and cannot be flown anymore
- A new GEN II payload (i.e. Oblique)
- A GEN II mount to use old camera (i.e. existing RX1)
- A PPK activation if needed
- PPK license can be activated for free if the old PPK module is sent back to Zurich (shipment to be covered by customer).
Sending back the PPK unit
The PPK license can be activated for free if the old PPK module is sent back to Zurich. If they don't send the PPK unit back, they have to pay for the PPK activation license.
We do not require the full unit to be shipped back - also shipping back the full unit does not allow for a larger discount on an upgrade deal
PPK Back-shipment Process:
- Add 1 PPK module to the shipping price to your quote where you are offering the upgrade --> that will cover the return shipment organized by Wingtra.

- Write an email to support to organize the back-shipment with the customer. Support has a standard process to get items sent back to Zurich.
