How to update?
Please read instructions on how to update your WingtraPilot and WingtraOne software here
WingtraOne and WingtraPilot release 1.9.5—August 2019
-
- Stability in wind. Improved hover control offers you more confidence while operating and landing WingtraOne in windy or gusty conditions.
- Safer forward flight. Safe operations will be ensured in case of faulty airspeed measurements caused by partial clogging of the pitot tube.
- Additional battery check. In-flight battery check to detect unequal battery charge levels. In case of a voltage mismatch, RTH is now triggered to avoid power failure.
- Security when flying above 1500m ASL with automatic battery RTH now applying to higher altitudes, up to 3000m ASL. For more details, visit this Knowledge Base article on altitude and RTH.
- Improved pre-flight checks will test sensors, motors and flaps. The flaps now move differently and the motor check runs differently, so please watch the videos in this Knowledge Base article to familiarize yourself with this new process.
- Barometer data pre-flight checks will validate that there are no sensor-internal barometer errors.
New product update—August 2019
New products and replacement parts

New, handier version of the hard case measures 143 cm (56 in) x 76 cm (30 in) x 22 cm (9 in) to carry the WingtraOne, a payload and two middle stands. Hard cases shipped before August 2019 were larger and featured space for the soft case. Note: in many countries this new case size takes it out of the freight category and could reduce shipping costs—please check with your local shipping provider to see if this applies.

New, more robust, black polyamide propellers that are less likely to break in case of tipping, and fit all WingtraOne black motor mounts. Note: WingtraOne ID <1135 continue to use wooden propellers.

Paired PPK dongle license keys, Sony RX1R II and QX1 payload cover and nose cover now available as separate replacement parts.
WingtraPilot & WingtraOne 1.9.4—May 2019
Physical ready-to-fly button retired
- Eliminate the use of the physical RTF button and replace by triggering the flaps check through the safety checklist on WingtraPilot
- From 1.9.4 onward, the physical ready-to-fly button is deactivated and retired. If you press the ready-to-fly button, you will be informed via WingtraPilot to use the checkpoint in the checklist instead of the physical button
Drone registration pop-up
- Upon startup of WingtraPilot, you'll see a pop-up asking you to register your drone by clicking a link, which re-directs to Hubspot
- Every customer has to register her/his drone; for more information see Why do you have to register your drone?
CPU load reduction
- Various optimizations to reduce CPU load on the Pixracer
RTH on communication loss bug fix
- Solved corner case where RTH was not triggered after 10s of RC and telemetry communication loss
Handle 'excessively fast descent' estimation failure
- Robustification of landing speed control to prevent cases where the aircraft descended too fast because of GPS inaccuracy
- The improvement involves depending much less on GPS vertical velocity during landing and more on the barometer measurements instead
Improve distance sensor failure handling
- Prevent flight if distance sensor failure is detected before take-off
- Improve fallback landing logic, incase of in-flight distance sensor failure
Magnetic inclination pre-flight check
- Before flying, confirm the sanity of the magnetometer measurement by comparing the field inclination to the expected value at the flight location (from a look-up table)
PPK device communication robustness
- Add feedback to device connection and configuration protocol to ensure SBF data is being streamed
- Include proper error reporting if the PPK module is not collecting data
Prevent multiple transitions
- Bug fix for software corner case, where the transition has been triggered multiple times upon a single command
RX1 Connectivity - SW fixes
- Various improvements in handling and logging of RX1RII connectivity
issues
Switch logger and post-processing toolchain
- Change from deprecated flight log logger (sdlog2) to the upstream supported .ulog format
- New flight log post-processing toolchain
Tipping/Crash Detector
- Feature to detect when the plane has crashed or tipped without shutting off the motors; if correctly detected, the motors are shut off automatically
- This can improve post-incident safety and reduce dependency on the emergency killswitch
Hardware changes—April 2019
RedEdge MX
- WingtraOne is now available with the RedEdge MX Sensor.
- Improved durability of the camera due to metal casing
- Newly developed DLS light sensor to more accurately calibrate multispectral imagery collected
Side stand silicone connection
- A new way of connecting the side stands to the drone body (via silicone tubes)
- The new design prevents side stands from falling off, because a pre-defined force is used when connecting them

Rugged payload boxes
- Shipment of add-on payloads in rugged, heavy-duty carrying cases
- Easier storage and safer transportation of payload add-ons due to foam covered heavy-duty cases
Updated drivetrains and new propellers
- More consistent aerodynamic performance
- Updated internal cable routing for best signal quality
- Improvement in RX1 cable reliability
WingtraPilot & WingtraOne 1.9.3—March 2019
- User facing release notes (linked here)
- Details for distributors see below
Airspeed sensor pre-flight check
- Some airspeed sensors sporadically run into a failure mode that is detectable on-ground and has led to a crash in the past. If detected, flying is prevented, and the user is notified accordingly
Altitude estimate pre-flight check
- In rare occurrences, the absolute altitude before flying is mis-estimated, leading to a mismatch between terrain data and estimated altitude
- WingtraPilot now performs an additional background sanity check of the GPS altitude measurement
Avoid high false motor shut off in gusty conditions
- So far, a corner case in landing logic lead to the motors shutting off up to 10 m above the ground in very gusty conditions based on an acceleration peak
- This effect is minimized by resetting the "near ground" flag when the aircraft starts to rise again after getting close to the ground
Heading estimation / failsafe improvements
- Based on learning from flight data, the estimator has been robustified further related to bad magnetic field / magnetometer conditions
- In case of heading divergences after forward transition, emergency landings are avoided by triggering alternative estimator recovery instead
RE-MX (SW support)
- Minor SW adaptation to include the payload name "RedEdge MX"
