Wingtra continuously improves the WingtraOne product both in software and hardware. Here you find explanations to the main hardware versions of the drone.
The hardware version of a specific WingtraOne can be found in the Planning (Plane Details / Plane Overview) sheet in column B. More details can be found when clicking on HW Release (title of the column B).
"V3" - Current WingtraOne Product, 2 battery interface cables
In case a customer who used to have a V2 unit, gets a new V3, use the snippet #replacementV3 to instruct him about the changes.
"V2" - WingtraOne ID > 1135, PPK enabled
We have sold ~600 V2 units. The drone is still supported and most replacement parts will be available also in the future.
"V1" - Early WingtraOne Product, WingtraOne ID < 1135
Wingtra entered the market with this product. There are still ~ 50 units in operation and we fully support our customers with their product!
Always discuss with another Wingtranaut before sending replacement parts to these customers, generally they are not compatible.
V1 units are only equipped with 1 onboard computer (the pixracer autopilot that handles flying and communication to WingtraPilot and RC) instead of 2 onboard computers for v2 (pixracer + onboard computer that handles the camera interface and data management).
Furthermore, V1 units have had another center of gravity (CoG), other motors and servos, different GPS placement and un-certified batteries.
This has many implications on the features that are available for the old customers:
The following features are not available on V1 units:
- PPK (if they want to upgrade to PPK, they have to purchase a complete new system, check with Sales if you get such a request)
- RedEdge M, RedEdge MX (V1 only supports the old RedEdge 1 camera)
- Camera feedback: V1 drones do not get feedback from the camera. The preflight procedure for V1 customers includes automatic triggering of 5 preflight images, which the user manually checks by looking at the camera screen (RX1) or listening to the shutter (QX1)
- Data organisation on the camera SD card: The data is simply saved into the DCIM folder of the camera and geotagging needs to be done after every flight. Geotagging can only be performed on the tablet (no WinngtraHub support).
- Motor check before take-off
- Wind can not be handled as well as on V2. This does not effect specifications (warranty given on all drones if wind speeds in hover/back transition are below 8m/s)
- Smart batteries: V1 units operate other batteries, that do not balance the cells themselves, are less protected, and do not give feedback about temperature. This leads to the following missing features: 1) Takeoff on V2 is prevented if batteries are below 10deg Celsius or above 30deg Celsius on takeoff, 2) Temperature and Cells of the connected battery are monitored on V2 during flight and user is warned if it is not sane, 3) If the two batteries are charged asymmetrically takeoff is prevented on V2. V2 does not require balancer cables compared to V1.
- Log dump: With v1.9.4, and switch to a new logger (ulog), log dump is supported only on v2. On v1, you always have to go for the SD card.
- 9DoF mag calibration: V1 drones are calibrated with an old routine (6dof). V1 can have more issues with magnetic interferences than V2.
- Software Updates after 1.9.4: Release 1.9.4 is probably the last software update for V1 customers and they will not be able to update to newer versions than this.
The following features are available on V1 units (incomplete list):
- Adaptive battery RTH
- Terrain Following
- KML import
