Flying in cold conditions

This article summarizes issues that can appear due to cold temperatures.

In cold and humid conditions the following parts can be covered with frost. Learn about the consequences and potential solutions.

Frozen Propellers

• Propeller icing is problematic for the flight behavior. Propellers lose performance and consequently the drone can not generate enough thrust. This can potentially lead to an increased descent speed during landing.
• Antifreeze or water repellent spray might help (has not been tested, some customers are using it, make sure to document here if we learn about their experience)

Frozen Pitot tube

• Not a problem, software can handle it
• Don't apply antifreeze!

Frozen Wing

• Not a problem
• Don't apply antifreeze!

The only crucial issue caused by cold conditions so far is the malfunction of the BEC, which is fixed since February 2019.
