Known issue: Flap jittering
After some time of usage in rare cases WingtraOne flap(s) can start jittering. In case a client encountered it, below is how we deal with it.
To better understand what jittering is and how it looks like here comes the example - Jittering Example video.
The jittering can happen because of two reasons:
- The servo-internal control circuit tries to reach a certain setpoint but is overreacting or
- The resolution of the servo-internal potentiometer is bigger than the dead-band of the controller in the servo
To tackle this kind of issue, ticket owner should do the following:
- Inform the client no matter which of those two events triggered it, the behavior is not flight-critical, so the customer can continue using the drone without being worried. For flight-critical failures, WingtraOne has self-check procedures (flap and servo check) that would stop take off if the issue is serious.
- Ask for flight logs and a video to document the issue
- Ask customers to monitor the flap behavior. In case it gets worse/stronger he should get back to us, and forward the new video and fresh logs. Include the responsible developer for case re-evaluation.
So far we have never done remote repairs o replacements, as there is no technical reason to do so. The purpose of the 3rd bullet is to learn through re-evaluation. However, if the customer is heavily annoyed due to the jittering, we would consider a wing swap, case by case.
