In times of pandemic, when in-person training is not possible, doing online remote training is one of the alternatives on how to onboard a new distributor/end-user.
The principles of online training are similar as for the onsite, so please read this article first.
In this article, we are going to touch the parts which are specific for online training only.
Once the training task is created in Clickup, and you are assigned as the trainer, you can proceed with organizing and conducting the training. Please read below on which parts you should pay extra attention to.
Organize the training/set logistics
In most cases, the training is going to be conducted via Zoom, so you should create the meeting in the Zoom calendar or in the Zoom application. In case 3+ participants attend, as regular Zoom accounts have limitations, make sure you use the Zoom Support account. After the meeting is set, share the invitation link with the contact person from the distributor/end user's side. In case trainees reject Zoom, suggest Microsoft Teams as an alternative.
Make sure the training sessions are recorded and uploaded to the corresponding folder in the Training section.
To share the records with trainees, create a folder in External Share, and copy the records.
In order to conduct online training, let the distributor/user know that they should secure a stable and fast internet connection. In case the trainees join the training together (e.g. all trainees are in the office) ask them to secure the room without echo and with a projector and a microphone if possible. This is the only way that the attendees watch the sessions and communicate with the trainer. To organize the training and set logistics you can use Invitation for onboarding training - online template in HubSpot.
Theoretical training
The latest version of training materials is adjusted for conducting online training. That being said, the focus is put on multimedia, videos, and illustrations. Despite the fact that some workflows are shown and described in the slides, the trainers should do a practical demonstration and show how to use WingtraPilot, WingtraHub, and Pix4D in practice. Also, make sure you have the whole WingtraOne bundle + payloads with you so you can show them the hardware parts and demonstrate some steps in WingtraHub.
After you are done with the second session - 2. Flight planning and safety features, you should do a short demo of WingtraPilot, running the application on your laptop and sharing screen with the trainees. To do so please use the Bluestacks emulator (KB article). It is important to show them all functionalities, including:
- How to set up the flight plan
- How to change safety/area/home point parameters
- How to do preflight check (demo it using tablet and drone)
- How to update the drone (demo it using tablet and drone)
- How to download the logs (demo it using tablet and drone)
In session 3. Geotagging after the theory is done trainer should demonstrate by screen sharing:
- Camera’s SD card structure, by plugging it into your laptop
- How to do nonPPK and PPK geotagging - run WingtraHub and do a demo, as an example you can use the Tutorial project, download it from here.
- Structure of WingtraPilotProject folder - show DATA, IMAGES, and OUTPUT folders
In session 4. Postprocessing the focus is on post-processing the data using Pix4D. After the theory is done do a short demonstration on how to:
- Import images and geotags
- How to set import and output coordinate system
- How to mark GCPs/CPs
- What are the outputs
- How to read a Quality report and do absolute accuracy assessment
To do a demo, make sure to
- Install Pix4D on your laptop (log in with lending shop account shopping@wingtra.com, GoRadical)
- Download this dataset - it is nice because it doesn’t have too many images and has GCPs
- Process it prior to the training - make sure to generate all outputs Point cloud, ortho, DTM, DSM, and Quality report. Keep the processed project in the background, so once you showed them how to import data, and set all parameters, just switch the screens
Practical training-flying
To do a practical part of the training (flying) make sure it is communicated to the user, as you are not on-site, the whole responsibility is on them. In order to do their first flight the right way make sure that:
- They secure free, open space (field) for flying without vertical obstacles around
- They check the weather forecasts to ensure that the environmental conditions are acceptable.
- They are aware of how they can interact with the flight if something goes wrong (RTH, pause/resume, manual landing, etc).
- you need live broadcast (via a cellphone using Whatsapp or Skype) so you can instruct them during the flight preparation and while doing the flight itself.
- They need to do the flight according to the local regulations.
- How to handle (hold) WingtraOne in a safe manner
After the whole training is done, share the training materials by creating the dedicated folder on External share. Make sure to copy all training materials including videos and training recordings.
