This article provides guidelines how to handle tickets including bird attacks. It also provides insights how bird attacks can be prevented.
Customer communication recommendations
- inform the customer that our customers encountered very few bird attacks so far (no fatal incidents so far, only scratches or missing spare parts)
- thank the customer for reporting
- inform them that we are tracking occurrences and are evaluating how bird attacks can be prevented if they are occurring more frequently in the future
- upvote bird avoidance feature request in the customer's name and let them know that they will be informed if we have started working on an improvement
- motivate them to add a comment to the feature request if they have a suggestion on how bird attacks can be prevented
- promote Accidental Damage Protection (ADP)
- Have 1 person piloting the drone and 1 person observing potential birds (rapidly changing focus between drone and birds is very difficult)
- Birds are usually circling above and attacking from the above, eagles are very fast descending but slow in ascending
- If the maneuver is performed too early it is easy for birds to adjust.
- Ways to interact:
-
- With the tablet only mode: Wait until the birds are close to the drone and change the direction of the drone by pressing RTH or Pause. When the drone is paused, increase the flight altitude by using the buttons on the tablet screen.
-
- With the RC: Wait until the bird is close to the drone and press Assisted and Transition. Push the left stick up to ascend. To resume the flight, the drone needs to be landed first.
- We continue to recommend the tablet only mode. We are not aware of any case, where the missing fast ascend feature lead to a serious incident.
